Liposuction Types

Types of Liposuction Treatments Liposuction is a kind of surgical alternative available for those who have tried dieting and exercise without success as a means to reduce or completely eliminate body fats from certain areas of their body. The areas could be the buttocks, arm, thighs, abdomen, and even the face. Though facial liposuction covers more than the face, it includes the jowls, neck and chin.

There are about eleven known types of liposuction. These are Tumescent, Dry, Wet, SuperWet, Ultrasonic, Vaser, Power Assisted, Laser, SmartLipo, CoolLipo, ProLipoPlus, Lipilite, LipoTherme, LipoControl, and Water Jet Assisted Liposuction. While some of these methods or techniques are still in use, others have been discontinued because of their low safety records. Of all these techniques and types of liposuction, the tumescent method and the ultrasound method are the commonest and most popular among patients and doctors. The Dry method also known as the Traditional method does not involve the use of any kind of liquid, hence the name. This method is no longer in use, as patients at times didn’t recover from the trauma and blood loss resulting from this type of liposuction.

Tumescent technique

The Tumescent technique is one of the most popular types of liposuction and it is the method often referred to by lay people when talking about liposuction. It is considered by cosmetologist to be the safest and most effective. The procedure involves injecting the Tumescent solution made up of several medical and chemical solutions into the fat deposits. The solution is used to melt the excess fat, after a vacuum tube is inserted to drain away the melted fat. The Tumescent method now serves as a generic name for other methods such as Wet and SuperWet Liposuction techniques.

Ultrasound assisted liposuction

The Ultrasound assisted liposuction is a type of liposuction and consists of the use of waves generated ultrasonically to emulsify the fat, making it much easier to remove. These waves can be transferred into the body either internally or externally. Internally through the cannulae, here the probe is first inserted to liquefy the fat and canulla is inserted in the same the place to extract it, externally through paddles placed outside the body that emits energy through the skin to the fat. Surgeons believe that this method is effective especially in areas of fibrous tissue such as the male breast region.

Water jet assisted liposuction

One of the other types of liposuction available are the water jet assisted liposuction. This method involves the use of pressurized stream of saline solution to dislodge the fat and at the same time remove the cells. It loosens fat cell to facilitate easy removal.

Whatever the type of liposuction, it is not an easy operation. The cost alone can be as high as $5000 with up to six weeks recovery time. Several people have lost their lives through liposuction. The wife of a former Nigerian President died from bleeding after a liposuction surgery. This goes to show that certain care must be taken before embarking on the journey of liposuction. Though the surgeons maintain that it is relatively a safe procedure with little or no side effects, care and caution must be maintained. The patient should endeavour to be properly educated to find the best types of liposuction method suitable for them.
